The face of boredom:

Rihanna - California King Bed

Omg, I can't lie I really love it. After hearing "Only Girl In The World" I was praying that Rihanna wouldn't follow the craze that everyone else is following. Ok, where am I gonna start?! Ummm......ok. Let's start with the vibe of the song. It's that nice rock ballad with a tiny dash of country slapped in there. A bit Taylor Swift-esque I might say.

The song starts with a guitar picking which is almost typical of rock ballads. This continues into the verse. And then we get into the chorus with the full ensemble. We have the lead electric guitar, acoustic guitar strumming, drums, bass and if I'm not mistaken piano.

Right, so yes, it's a love song (nothing new there) but the thing is - LOVE DOESN'T GET OLD. One reason why I believe I like this song is that it's refreshing coming from a her of all people. Vocally, Rihanna was giving everything. It felt quite raw and the chorus was bursting with that emotion and passion that we need to feel. If you wanna check it out, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuCuW5II6uY&feature=related

I'm hoping you'll like it as much as I do. Take care. And make sure you come the f*** back!!!

X-factor winner's single

Check out Matt Cardle's "When We Collide". Originally a cover of Bliffy's "Many Of Horror" this was his winner's single after he won the X-Factor UK 2010. Happy for him but even happier that Cher Lloyd, Rebecca Ferguson & One Direction all got signed as well. Speaking of one direction, I'm just happy for the boys but I hope I never come in contact with any of their songs!

Olly Murs - Thinking Of Me

Olly Murs: The future of UK pop music. First we see him on x-factor. He was seriously one of the best in the competition and from eD's point of view - he shoulda won......but nooo Joe McEldery won!!! Now everyone knows he's gay they can't stop hating! I bet if they knew he was gay he wouldn't have won. Anyway, back to my point. Olly Murs - HOT JOINT!!! First he hits us the with the reggae influenced "Please Don't Let Me Go" and now he's hitting us one more time with "Thinking of Me". I LOVE this track a whole lot. It follows the cool, laid-back reggae feel of his first single. The songs about him feeling that his ex is still thinking of him wherever she is.

I'll be honest with you eD heaDs, I haven't liked a song on the charts in ages but this one is really doing it for me at the moment and though it hasn't been released officially the video is out. Check it out on YouTube, iTunes, or just google the damn thing! Whatever you do - CHECK IT OUT!!! Album out on the 29th and I'm looking forward to it. The eD ship is taking off again! Take care.

Keri Hilson - Breaking Point

New album, new image and a new sound for Keri Hilson. Lead single from her sophomore album "Breaking Point". It's a really laid back female anthem. The lyrics talk about a woman having a limit to how much she can put up with a guy's inappropriate behaviour. She demands more respect and love from her man referring to how some women can tolerate the attitude more than others.Claiming that "Some women can be lied to and cheated on and beated on". The song has a solid beat and Timbaland's signature beatboxing. Also, it contains a synth horn sound playing all through. There's a skank played on the organs in the chorus. For those of you who think a skank is a scrawny, trashy woman or simply just a dance, it's not. Apart from being a slang term, a skank is a musical technique highly associated with reggae. When you're listening to reggae music (preferably), count (1,2,3,4) and on the 2nd and 4th counts, the skank wikll be played usually on the guitar, organ or piano.

Anyway, back to the review. This is a strong choice and it's different from what everyone else is trying to sound like. This song is a good R&B joint and hopefully will be the start of a new era for Ms. Keri. It doesn't sound too commercial but it's still got that nice urban feel most of us like in our R&B. I can safely say: "Go check this song out!!!". I hope you like it, I know (and now so do you) I did: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oq_cF2LCXzM

Beyoncé - Why Don't You Love Me

Beyoncé - Why Don't You Love Me. Stunning single. It's like modern funk, the video is awesome. As well as giving insight on what Beyoncé has been doing on her break, it's setting also compliments the 50's vibe of the song. The song has a beautiful contrast of Beyoncé's bold, roaring vocals singing vulnerable lyrics about feeling lonely. She seriously sounds like she's crying out with her last breath begging her man to love her!!!

Anyway, I really gotta say how much I love the elements of this song (It's no friggin wonder it topped the US dance charts before it was released lol). It has good use of percussion including bongos and congas and the marching snare/kick pattern in the intro. The synth bassline, although quite basic has a really good impact on the song. It makes me feel like it's always trying to say: "Come on B, let's make these people go mad!" Coming to the verses, there is a nice strong back-beat played on the Snares. (For those who don't know what a back-beat is:       http://www.answers.com/topic/backbeat or      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbUoM9praog. Ain't no shame in not knowing something.) Though not as bold as the other instruments, the string section really supports the bassline in the chorus, making it feel fuller.

This is a really solid song and is like a red echo of previous songs like "Crazy In Love", "Deja Vu" and "Green Light" which also incorporated funk elements. To be honest, it stands out to me among other weaker tracks on the album such as "Video Phone" and "Diva". I hope you have a super-awesome time listening to this banger just like I did. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TA-QMT2P-9I

Well, the eD ship is taking off now. Be blessed

Nelly - Just A Dream

I mean, FINALLY!!! Something pleasing to the ears! After the shit occupying the top spots, why wouldn't I want to hear this new track from Hip Hop star Nelly??? Ok, we haven't heard from Nelly in a while and he comes out with something fresh. It's good, it's well arranged, it's comes across with the relaxed, clear feel that we need in the charts. The guitar riff had a really nice feel to it and the strings were lovely too. The track is really strong and would probably sound really, really good unplugged. Nelly's rapping against an R&B beat worked really well. So much, in fact that it almost feels close to a Hip Hop Ballad. The verses are tight and the toned down pre-chorus is a great vehicle into the energetic and catchy chorus.

Eventually, I can say I would go out to buy this lol. This is the song for those who haven't heard it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6O2ncUKvlg&ob=av2e

The eD ship is taking flight, stay blessed.

Soulja Boy Ft. Justin Beiber - Rich Girl

This is NOT Hip Hop. What do you get when you put 2 YouTubers that got lucky together??? This. Fair enough, I never liked Justin Beiber's music......ever and I USED to like Soulja Boy when he came out (I really don't know why) but seriously???!!! The Instrumental is nice, it's full of playful synths, it's commercial, it's urban-cheesy, it's so bubblegum it sticks on your mind. The song? Really? Independent woman, nice. But this is so...boring. I can only imagine little girls and maybe some boys and older girls going out to get this. I had to bother myself to listen to this. Justin Beiber's vocals are great on this. He can sing, I can't deny but Soulja boy comes round with his boring "swag" and his typical hip hop lyrics. "She got a Barbie phantom"/"She lives in a Barbie mansion" who is she, Nicki Minaj??? And then comes a disturbingly daft lyric: "She's a rich girl, she's got a lot of money".............-___- duh???!!! If the girl is RICH do you need to tell us she got a lot of money, what, did he run out of lyrics or at least common sense???

For those of you who care to listen to this...whatever it is (cause it sure as eD ain't Hip Hop) here's the YouTube link:

Rihanna - Only Girl In The World

Ok, blogspot. Rihanna - Only Girl In The World. Like Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream", this song also follows the electronic/dance-pop craze going round in the music industry. First of all, I must say, Rihanna's vocals get better and better and better. From this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTtMXLe5z3Y to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGaPKkZX3B0 to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cpeyxk7us1E . No one can tell me nothing, she's getting stronger and I'm sure she's not going anywhere any time soon.

Well, onto the subject of the moment: Only Girl In The World. New album about to drop, lead single = dance track to add to the boring collection of R&B/Pop singers turned electronic masqueraders hauling the top 5 with their pointlessly explicit videos and predictable lyrics. This lead single may not be a reflection of the full album and yes, it's doing well (which is what the label and the girl want) but how is it "different"??? How is this better than 'Umbrella', 'Pon De Replay', 'Please Don't Stop The Music' or 'Unfaithful'??? Simple - IT'S NOT!!! Yes, it's reached #1 but it has so little substance. The only good thing about it is that it gives an inside scoop of what most girls want to feel like. Maybe it's a super-catchy girl's night out track but it's nothing more.

This is the song for those who haven't heard it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjZD63BWKgA&ob=av2e

Katy Perry - Teenage Dream

From a "good Christian family", daughter of one (maybe 2) pastors, Katy Perry is now the hot pop star (often seen as America's response to British pop singer Lily Allen) with the quirky, cartoony faces. From her effort as a teenage gospel singer Katy Hudson to the maker of hits "I Kissed a girl", "Hot 'N' Cold" and "California Gurls", I would say Katy's come a long way. Moving on, Perry's latest hit "Teenage Dream" follows the electro-pop style which is rapidly becoming the new craze of the music industry. Everybody from Beyonce & Usher to Katy Perry & Christina are giving the electronic/dance-pop scene a shot. For some, it will work, for others it will not.

Teenage dream's guitar picked intro leads to Katy's soft, pure head voice in the first verse accompanied with a lo-fi drum beat as she sings about the things her man sees in her that other people might not such as her natural beauty and her sense of humour (even when she doesn't get the punchline right). As the song progresses into the pre-chorus, she goes down into a strong chest voice and as the chorus approaches, we get the typical stuttering kick drums, obviously telling us that the high-energy chorus is about to kick in. So like we already expected, we get a fun, bouncy, explosion of heavy kick drums and a solid back beat instead of the low-fi kit used in the verse and a raspy synth line accompanying the guitar and Katy's strong vocals singing a full-action pop hook.

Love? A cliché topic??? Well of course. But innocence??? Not so cliché. This song seems to be based on the depiction of the more innocent and naive stages of a teenage relationship where time stops and there's this crazy chance that forever could actually exist in the relationship of two adults. I did like her previous album more than this club-banging record but that doesn't mean it's bad, cause it's not. Personally, it's not on the top of my playlist but it's a great tune to bang out and sing a long to or play at a prom.

This is the song, if you haven't heard it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98WtmW-lfeE&ob=av2e

When the eDship landed

Hey, this is eD. I'm a music student and I know it sounds cliché but I love a whole load of genres. I just really wanted to make a blog and hope people somehow see it and read my opinion and, well, respond.

That's how the eDship lands.
